5 Ways to Be More Active in Your Everyday Life

In addition to meeting the physical activity recommendations, research suggests that getting more activity is better. Another way to increase your physical activity (and decrease the amount of time you spend sitting) is to get moving more in your everyday life.

Here are some quick tips for becoming more active in your everyday life:

  1. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

  2. Walk up escalators instead of just taking a ride.

  3. Park farther away from the entrance to the office, grocery store, bank, or other businesses when you’re running errands.

  4. At work, use a restroom that’s on another floor (no cheating—take the stairs!) or farther away from your desk.

  5. Make your time with family and friends active time. Use your weekly lunch with your friend at work to take a walk. Or head to the park for your next family outing.
