Three women watching a film

Most cravings only last a few minutes, so making a short phone call or finding a task to keep her hands busy might be enough.

Here are a few activities you could suggest:

  1. Go to the movies (and let her pick the show)

  2. Take a walk

  3. Plan a game night with a group of friends

  4. Make dinner

  5. Go out to eat at her favorite restaurant

  6. Sign up for a class like photography, painting, or cooking

  7. Go to a concert

  8. Chew gum or (slowly) eat hard candy

  9. Play a game on her cell phone (likes Smokefree’s WordWeather Exit Disclaimer, available for free on the App Store)

  10. Do yoga

  11. Play with a rubber band

  12. Switch tasks for a change of scenery

  13. Munch on some carrot sticks, nuts, or celery

  14. Squeeze a stress ball

  15. Take deep breaths and try to relax

  16. Drink lots of water

Consider putting together a smokefree survival kit with a few of these items so she’s ready to deal with a craving in the moment. Include a short message to keep her motivated, like “Keep staying strong!”
