Trying to squeeze in time for exercise and spend time with your family? Do both at the same time!
Being active with your family can be a fun way to get everybody moving. All of you will get the health benefits that come from being active. Plus, you’ll be a positive role model, helping your children develop good habits for an active lifetime.
There are many ways to build active time into everyday family time. Try to make at least one day each week an “active day.”
Play!
Throw a ball, dance to your favorite songs, go swimming. Whatever is fun for you and your kids. If your kids play sports, practice with them. Turn the tables and let them “coach” you for a change.
Get outside!
Hop on your bikes for a ride or head to a neighborhood park for some running around. Got a dog? Take the dog for a walk. Pets get benefits from being active too!
Celebrate!
Mark birthdays, anniversaries, or any special occasion with something active. Take a hike, play hoops, throw a Frisbee, or ask friends to join a pickup game of volleyball or soccer.
Walk this way!
Park your car as far away from the store’s entrance as you can. Count the number of steps it takes you to walk to the store entrance. Try to park farther away next time.
Give back!
Train with family and friends for a charity walk or fun run for a cause or issue that you care about.
