Mindless munching usually means eating without paying attention to what or how much you’re eating.

Common signs of mindless munching include:

  1. Eating when bored, stressed, craving a cigarette, or simply because the food is there.

  2. Snacking while preparing meals—someone has to taste test!

  3. Multi-tasking eating—mixing eating with working, checking email, etc.

  4. Distracted eating—eating while driving or watching TV.

  5. “Cleaning” your plate—even when you’re no longer hungry.

Is there an alternative? Yes! Try out the practice of mindful eating for preparing, choosing, and eating with awareness.
