Pregnant women relaxing at beach

Pregnancy and parenting can be really stressful. On top of whatever daily hassles you had in the past, you might find yourself facing new things that stress you out as a mom, like:

  • Less time for yourself or with a partner

  • Trying to get your baby to sleep

  • Trying to get your baby to stop crying

  • Feeding and bathing your baby

  • Less sleep

  • More laundry and dishes

  • More visits from family and friends wanting to see the baby

  • Finding daycare or babysitters

  • A tighter budget

  • Caring for mulitiple children

Although smoking might seem like a good way to de-stress or relax, it’s actually having the opposite effect on your body. Smoking increases your heart rate and blood pressure. And when the cigarette is gone, all your other stressors will still be there waiting for you.

Stress is a reason why many women smoke (maybe it’s one of your triggers, too) so it’s important to find ways to relax that don’t include smoking. Read more about stress and smoking to find out how other women de-stress without cigarettes. Then take our stress quiz to identify the stressful areas in your life and identify ways to address them.
