As we celebrate the 1-year anniversary of the Smokefree Women Web site, we want to celebrate YOUR efforts to quit smoking and stay smokefree. To do that, Smokefree Women launched the Celebrating Smokefree Voices video contest.

We know quitting is difficult, and Smokefree Women is committed to supporting women through their journey to become and stay smokefree, providing tips, resources, information, and support along the way. We also know that the quitting experience is different for each smoker, as well as for her family and friends. The goal of our video contest is to capture the variety of quitting experiences and give smokefree women across the nation the opportunity to share their reasons for quitting. This is your chance to tell us why being smokefree is important to you!

Contest winners will be announced on July 2, 2010, just before Independence Day, and we want to celebrate YOUR independence from smoking. Video creations should fit into one of the following categories:

  1. Why I am a smokefree woman: Create a video that tells others why you stay smokefree. Talk about the reasons why you decided to quit and what motivates you to remain smokefree. Tell us what it means to you to be a smokefree woman.
  2. Why I want YOU to be smokefree: Create a video to let a woman smoker in your life know why you want them to stop smoking. Use this opportunity to tell your mother, sister, significant other, daughter, friend, or co-worker why you want them to enjoy a smokefree-life and freedom from cigarettes.

Judging:
Videos will be judged upon the following criteria:

  • Audiovisuals
  • Creativity
  • Originality
  • Message content
  • Relation to theme

An NCI panel of judges will select the top 10 videos in each category based on the criteria listed. The public will then vote on the top 10 videos in each category starting on June 21, 2010.

Prize & Winner Announcement:
The top three videos as judged by the public in each of the two contest theme categories will be named the contest winners. The following prizes will be awarded in each category:

  • 1st: $2,000
  • 2nd: $1,000
  • 3rd: $500

The Smokefree Women team will contact the winners by e-mail.

How to Enter:

  1. Review the contest rules and eligibility
  2. Create a video that is no longer than 2 minutes for one of the two contest categories
  3. Creat a YouTube account and upload your video to YouTube
  4. Join the YouTube SFW Celebrating Smokefree Voices Video Contest group External link disclaimer
  5. Complete the entry form (you will need to include the YouTube URL for the contest video you have created and submit the form by June 11, 2010 so that we can upload your video)
  6. Once we receive your entry form with the URL for your video submission, we will upload the video to the YouTube SFW Celebrating Smokefree Voices Video Contest group External link disclaimer
